Grafton Community Church, Bells Across America:
A grateful nation will pause on Sunday, May 7, 2023 to honor firefighters who died in
the line of duty in 2022, and previous years. One hundred and forty-five firefighters will receive
an official national tribute at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg,
Maryland as part of its Bells Across America for Fallen Firefighters initiative.
On May 7 th at the Grafton Community Church, the 10:00 a.m. service will celebrate that
within humankind is a willingness to serve and protect one another, as exemplified so clearly in
firefighters and first responders. Directly preceding the service postlude, at approximately
10:55 a.m., there will be a traditional Bell Ringing Ceremony.
We will bow our head in prayer or remembrance as the Grafton Community Church Bell
tolls in three groups of five in memory those first responders who have answered their last
alarm. The tolling of the church’s bell will join the ringing of bells all across America in honor of
these fallen firefighters and their families. It will also be a day to thank the dedicated men and
women of the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad. They have served our
town selflessly and expertly every minute of every day for the past year, sacrificing so much to
keep us safe.
