Reflection summary: Jesus promises his followers complete joy in today’s Gospel reading. The promise is made as the Christ prepares those who have trusted in him for his suffering, death and ultimate departure from them. Could they find joy in that? Can we find joy in the violence, hate and distrust of today’s world? Maybe we will, trusting that our real joy is in the service of love we are asked to show on our God’s behalf.
